What do Cub Scouts do?  Everything!  Every den meeting the Scouts complete achievements as they work towards their rank badge.  Those requirements include learning about themselves, their family, their community, and their country and how they are part of it.

But they always have fun!  Every year the pack has special events and trips that will create fantastic memories for you and your Scout.  See below for some of our past events.

Pinewood Derby - The Classic Cub Scout Event

Pack 402 is fortunate to have an outstanding 6 lane track complete with an electronic timing system featuring real time results projected on the big screen!

Pack 402 Night at Pipewooks Rock Climbing

An outstanding opportunity for our Scouts to have a night of learning, fun and exercise.  Think a 1st grader is too young to tackle the wall?  Think again!

Raingutter Regatta

Most Scout's first activity in Pack 402 is the Raingutter Regatta.  Each Scout is given a boat kit that he uses to create his very own boat that he gets to race himself!  Trophies and ribbons are award to the top finishers, and everyone receives a participation patch.

Camp Lassen Resident Camp

Pack 402's premier overnight camping experience is held every year in July.  Scouts are accompanied by their adult at BSA's Camp Lassen in the forest northeast of Chico.  Activities include rockwall, archery, bb guns, swimming, boating, nature exploration and crafts.  The professional staff at Camp Lassen conduct all of these activites while the adults supervise the Scouts.  The facility is a fully equipment campground complete with dining hall.

Tour of the City of Sacramento
Drinking Water Treatment Plant

One of many opportunities we have given the Scouts of Pack 402 to learn about their community.  Scouts learned how water is taken from the river, cleaned, treated and sent to homes all over the city.

Day (Twilight) Camp

Pack 402's Day (Twilight) Camp is held every June.  Over the course of one week Scouts visit nightly from 4:30pm to 8:30pm to participate in a variety of activities including bb guns and archery.  All activities are conducted by training staff and supervised by adult volunteers.

Sleepover Aboard the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier

One of the many unique experiences Pack 402 arranges for the Scouts and their Adult.  We live aboard the USS Hornet aircraft carrier for one night.  The trip includes dinner on board, tours of many parts of the carrier not regularly open to the public, a night sleeping in the actual crew quarters, breakfast on board, and self guided tours the next morning.  A truly memorable event for everyone involved!

Tour Behind the Scenes of Sacramento Airport

Something that impresses every young Scout!  One of our parents was able to arrange a tour behind the scenes at Sacramento International Airport.  We checked out the security at the airport, and followed the checked luggage from counter to plane.  We got up close and personal with a plane that had just landed, and even got to check out the cockpit!  We finished the tour with a demonstration from the Sacramento Sheriff's K-9 officer.  The professional service animal demonstrated his contraband detection abilities for our group.

Sleepover Aboard the USS Pampanito Submarine

Another of the many unique experiences Pack 402 arranges for the Scouts and their Adult.  We live aboard the USS Pampanito Submarine in San Francisco for one night.  The trip includes an educational discussion of the submarine's tours of duty, tour of the submarine (including the coning tower not usually open to the public), a late night snack on board, a night sleeping in the actual crew quarters, and breakfast on board.  We then followed with a tour of Golden Gate Bridge and Fort Point.  A truly memorable event for everyone involved!

Sleepover at Monterey Bay Aquarium

Slept with a shark lately?  Another of the many unique experiences Pack 402 arranges for the Scouts and their family (5 and up).  We arrived at the Monterey Bay Aquarium at 7pm and were able to explore all the exhibits for a few hours.  After a late night snack, we rolled out our sleeping bags next to the giant outer bay tank.  We watched the sharks as we dozed off (and they kept an eye on us!)  Morning comes and we pack up, grab some breakfast, and head out to explore the Monterey area.

Tour of the California Highway Patrol Training Academy

Pack 402 showing Scouts more about the world we live in.  We visited the CHP Training Academy in West Sacramento, touring the grounds.  We met many officers and learn about how they serve the people of the State of California.
